Hot Hot Hot July 12, 2021

Binnie,

Just as you seem to be on your mission, it is

 Hot Hot Hot.

Once again, we are graced by the smoke from the California fires. The air is horrible! The sun has an eerie red glow. This week Heber got to 98°. Dad conducted a funeral (sweet AnnaJean Turner) at 3 pm on Thursday at the Cemetery. I was in a breezy skirt with an umbrella for shade but there Dad stood in his black suit with the full sun on his back. Clarice came! Her son brought her. She was soon surrounded by adoring fans. I said, "She's a celebrity around here."

He said, "I know. She loves it." I asked if he was joking. He wasn't. I figured I may as well ask to get a rare photo—when one's age matches the air temperature;)

What peeps are up to

Graham has worked hard enough to buy a new computer. One that can handle his flight simulator. He is very much anxiously awaiting its arrival. I thought of all the packages he has anxiously waited for. I reminded him of when he was awaiting his Indiana Jones hat, whip, and satchel. I asked if he was more excited then or now. He said, "About the same!"

Shop till you drop

Gray had his wisdom tooth follow-up apt. on Friday morning. He said he wanted to go shopping for mission stuff afterward. The irony, Gray trying to find a time for ME to take him shopping. Since I was driving, I drove straight to Burlington, first. He said, "Wait, where are we? NO, not here!" I told him to humor me. He found two pairs of shoes that he looooves, a tie, and socks. As we walked to the car he said, "This was a good stop." Always is! It's much more expensive sending out an Elder! When I looked for photos on my camera to jar my memory of our week, I just have a bunch of screenshots of mission package deals. Mr. Mac offered the best deal.

As he paid for his stuff at Mr. Mac I asked, "Do you want to walk around the mall at all?"

His response was, "Not at all." We were pooped by the time we got home at 3 pm. Just in time for him to go to work.

Girls' week

The rest of the photos on my phone were ones that Ashley texted me.

Callie has tried her hardest to arrange a girl's week this summer. Just when she thought it wasn't going to happen at all, it did. They did so many fun things! She spent the week in Highland where she got to attend a day or two of Ashely's volleyball camp. If her arms didn't burn so bad, she might have thought more of it. There they saw Yoeli Child. Though the text auto corrected to Julia Child. I showed the picture to Gray who said, "No fair!" He told me that whenever he and his friends texted about Yoeli it would always auto-correct to some strange name. I guessed, "Julia Child?"

Summer school

I finished up my five weeks of summer school at JR Smith. I got pretty attached to the kiddos—even the one with a waft of urine as he passed by. I thought, "I bet I've sent a urine kid to school before." One girl had a cut on her forehead. She said, "I have a statue of Jesus's mother above my bed and it fell on me." Another shared his dream of starting his own lawn care company someday. One kid has so much energy that he has to use an exercise ball as a chair so that he can keep bouncing. He might have been my favorite. I watched construction crews install a new gym floor over the summer. Once again Gray exclaimed, "no fair, that wasn't there when I went there."

I was listening to the radio one morning, as I drove over. The DJ said that there would be a rare moon that night. He then cautioned, "Don't try and get a photo on your smartphone—those never turn out.

I'd send a picture of the creepy sun, but those never turn out either. Touché.

Love, Mom

PS. It was so special to be a part of your THREE baptisms on Saturday!

Note: Mall had to log onto Zoom at 6:30 am Hawaii time to be able to join!
