Snow Great to Be Back—January 2023

No Thanks to Me

One of the final scenes in Elf is where everyone is gathered on the city streets to sing "Santa Clause Is Comin' to Town." Buddy's brother notices that Buddy's father is just pretending to be singing. Buthded. Well, I felt a little like this when we were asked by the Governor to fast and pray for precipitation—as the past few years have been scant. I never did though. So no thanks to me, we got all the snow we will ever need to make up for the bum years. Later, I admitted to Matt that I never prayed for moisture. He asked why. "I guess I never talk about the weather in my prayers."

SNOOOOWWW

I simply must document this for future reference when we are sure to ask, "What year was it that we had all that snow?" 2023! (Moving forward, I will be posting random snow shots.)

The snow just kept coming and coming. Matt and Graham kept up on it like champs.

January Drones On

I was pleased when Graham requested that we go driving one Saturday so he could practice and also get some great drone shots. We went to the Homestead Crater and Huber Grove. This snow! It was a lovely early morning spent with the two of us.

The morning did not go without incident. New driver Graham hit our recycle bin and knocked out the tail light. After getting aa few pull-overs, Matt has fashioned some tape on it. The van is slowly becoming that van.

Graham fed our family text thread with beautiful drone shots all winter long.

Another incident involving Graham was when he needed a ride to work. I had been at the computer for quite some time working on school. I did not realize that my foot had fallen asleep. I stood up and it completely went out from under me. The remaining foot shot forward, hit the door jam, and started to bleed. He looked at me in awe as he held out his hand. What just happened? He was a true gent.
My sickness went on and on through January. On yet another Saturday, when we Matt and I had the house to ourselves we curled up on the bed and watched a movie...in the middle of the day! Matt asked what platform the movie was on, cable, recored, etc...I said, "DVD from the library." The forgotten option.

Bocie Bake-off

Baking something yummy is enjoyable for me to do on a Saturday, especially in January. I saw the Food Nanny try a cinnamon roll-styled blueberry lemon biscuit that looked dreamy. So, combing my recipes I set to work. They turned out dreamy indeed. I sent a pic to Binnie since she is our master biscuit baker (we can all attest to Binnie's biscuits). She said, "You are killing me." And we were because they were to. die. for. Like a 10+. Callie and I enjoyed them with afternoon tea all the while commenting on the perfect balance of flakiness and sweetness. I was ready to clean up when Matt came home from errands. He grabbed one as he talked, leaned over the sink, and had it down in about three bites. I chuckled to myself about how differently we savor foods;)

Nifty Thrifty

Another thing I enjoy doing on a Saturday is poking around the local thrift stores. I was happy that this chair didn't look quite so neon when I got it home. It was the comfort that sold me.

Friday Nights at the Movies!

Despite the snow, Matt and I were pretty good about Friday night date nights of dinner and a movie. We weren't picky, we just saw whatever was out, including M3GAN in Park City. There was only one other couple in the theatre! They left lickity-split when the movie was over. This gave us a chance to practice that scene where she grabbed the blade off the trimmer and headed down the hall.

When we went to the theater on Main in Heber, we realized we needed to bring pillows for back support. We get odd looks walking in with our bag of bedding, but it makes the movie much more enjoyable. Other movies we saw are Avitar and Otto. We loved a new local restaurant Boun Appetito and yet another local favorite left us wanting. As we drove away, Matt said, "I need to get this taste out of my mouth." We headed to Kneaders for dessert to eat by the fire. That fireplace became the backdrop for several of our dates.

Cat Tales

Face-timing Mal while she was on a walk. A dog was barking in the background. Poe sat by me and listened like this. Ears alert, eyes searching. This cat is a part of our day-in and day-out.

Hair Dos and Don'ts

I loooooove that I C will still play with my hair.

Callie experimented by looping my bathrobe tie around my head and twirling my hair around it before bed. I sent her a photo the next morning when I took it out. It was great!

Do try it, don't expect it to stay curled all day without product.

Sunrises

Taking Callie to the middle school each day was an opportunity to catch the golden sunrises of winter.

Connection

Connection with family is good for the soul. I pictured those relationships coming more naturally at this stage in life. But like everything else, they take work. Some relationships are worth the effort while some grow tiresome. My bond with my Auntie Linda will always be there. She has been so loving and supportive over the years of me and my family. I look up to her in so many ways. She will always have my heart. I was delighted that my cousin Rachel reached out to me about her mom staying at the care center in town while recovering from back surgery. I grabbed a loaf of homemade bread and jam and headed over with Matt. The second time that I visited, I went by myself. Boy can the two of us chat!
Matt marveled that I had been gone for as long as I had just visiting! I realized, sadly, that he doesn't have family to chat and reminisce with to the point of tears and laughter. He simply couldn't relate. For those reasons it felt especially neat when I would catch Gray and Graham on a Monday, FaceTiming about life and making plans for after Grayson's mission.

What my other January babies are up to. Kat in Texas, Mal in Kuaui, and Ava in Ohahu.

That was January. And yes. We did leave the Christmas lights up.
