Called to Surf Serve!
Despite Mallerie's pleas to have us stay in Hawaii longer, we had to get back to life on the mainland. The thing that we wanted to be in Hawaii for was to see Ava open her mission call! We hoped that by some miracle, it would arrive while we were there. It did not.
On Tuesday, December 8th 2020, we got to watch Ava open her call on ZOOM!
She was excited, and nervous, and anxious. We all were!
As she started to read where she was going, my mind went from coast to coast in a matter of seconds. Washington (west coast) DC (east coast)!
Her call is to the Washington DC South Mission. She will begin home MTC on March 10, 2021.
The relief in her smile said it all.
After she toured Brazil this past fall, she started having nightmares that she'd get called there. She had a good time, but for whatever reason, she did not want to serve there. Also, due to Covid, she has many friends called to foreign missions, reassigned stateside. This uncertainty was causing her angst. She just wanted to know where she would be serving her mission!
Just like Mal, she was very much relieved to be speaking English.
Mallerie, "We weren't even thinking Washington DC!"
Our beautiful Binnie.
I mentioned my daughter's call while in my Zoom class the following Thursday. One of my classmates lives in DC. He said that the south mission covers part of Virginia. I texted Ava, "Is part of your mission in Virginia?" She texted back, "All of it." I pulled up a map and saw that is very true!
For this reason, she wasn't sure which flag to buy a DC flag or a Virginia flag. In the end, we left it to Matt to decide. He decided on DC.
Ava is one of the most down-to-earth people you will ever meet. She loves people, she is kind, and she is a deep thinker. These traits will serve her well on her mission.
And though it will be hard to send her away again, there won't be any pleas for her to stay.
XOXO
