I want to include Callie's jaunt to the islands. We said goodbye in Seattle. Katrina took her to the airport. She flew out on July 27th and returned home on August 12th. She had a great time spending the rest of her summer in Hawaii. First with Mal and Gav. They took her and her BFF, Jessie, on a three-day Nepali Coast hike.
We could not believe the timing of a Tsunami warning that happened while my babies were on the Nepali coast. The news reports said it would first hit Kauai. I said to Matt, "At least they are up high on the mountain." Then Kat and Ava texted me that the hike goes down to the beach in several places. Oh boy. The hikers have no service. There was nothing we could do. I told Matt, "Well, we should at least stay up until it hits," which was about 11:15 p.m. our time.
They were indeed camping on the beach when the warning came via helicopter. They were told to move to higher ground. Mal said she has never seen Callie hike so fast!
The tsunami never hit more than a few feet high, thankfully.
Callie and Jessie spent the second half of their trip on Oahu, staying with Jessie's relatives. They spent so much time at the beach that they looked like natives by the time they came home.
Reunited, and it feels so gooood!
Poe was never far from Callie in the days following.
We finally got our Callie-coo back. She is bronze as can be and full of tales. All of her traveling really ate up her summer.
Next up, back to school!
